Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk agreed in New Delhi on October 22 to double bilateral trade by 2030, according to the joint statement.

The statement frames Poland as an entry point for Indian companies. Tusk said Poland can serve as a gateway for Indian firms expanding in Central and Eastern Europe, while Modi invited Polish firms to invest in India across sectors from machinery and pharmaceuticals to mining and energy.

Technology and research are part of the package, with collaboration on AI, semiconductors and quantum technologies, along with start-up partnerships and support for small and medium enterprises.

The reports do not list the agreements signed, so businesses should check the official text, and the EU-India free trade agreement, signing of which is scheduled for December 16, will matter for how much of the trade goal is achievable.

An India-Poland Business Forum was held during the visit, and the leaders urged partnerships in industrial machinery, defence, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, mining and critical minerals, energy, information technology and other sectors.

Both sides agreed to resume the activities of the bilateral agriculture working group.

They agreed to collaborative research on artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum technologies, and to strengthen start-up partnerships.

The leaders also highlighted supply chain resilience, support for small and medium enterprises and digital transformation.

Space cooperation was identified as a key part of the Strategic Partnership, and both sides welcomed efforts to find concrete areas of cooperation.

Opportunities were identified in battery recycling and rare earth refining, and a memorandum of understanding on geology, mining and critical minerals is under negotiation.

The leaders welcomed exploring more direct flights between Poland and India and encouraged civil aviation authorities to hold direct talks.

Both sides noted potential cooperation in shipping, maritime security and port cooperation to build a secure and resilient network and to shorten transit times.
