Delhi Police have denied permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which was expected to open the Aura India Tour, according to reports on October 22.
The denial is a setback for the tour’s launch and for BookMyShow Live, the co-producer and promoter. The date had already been moved once, from November 1 to October 30, because of sensitivities around the 1984 anniversary, according to Aryan Age.
The wider tour, including Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata, has not been reported as affected, but its impact has not been announced.
The singer and the organisers had not responded in the reports, so the next step is an official statement on a new date or an alternative arrangement.
The concert was first planned for November 1 and was moved to October 30 because of sensitivities around the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, according to Aryan Age.
The show is co-produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live, according to ETV Bharat.
The organisers had not announced a revised date or an alternative venue when the reports were published.
ETV Bharat says it is unclear whether the organisers will seek an alternative arrangement for Delhi.
The reports reviewed carried no response from Diljit Dosanjh or from BookMyShow.
The reports did not give ticket or refund information for the Delhi show.
The reported schedule of the Aura India Tour includes Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata, according to ETV Bharat.
Diljit Dosanjh spoke on September 24 about a planned performance at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 21, according to the same report.
The effect of the denial on the wider tour schedule has not been announced, according to ETV Bharat.
Large public events in Delhi need permissions from the police and other agencies, including for crowd management, traffic and security arrangements.
