Khosla Ka Ghosla 2, the sequel to the beloved 2006 comedy-drama, is set to release in theatres on August 28, 2026, nearly two decades after the original became a cult favourite.

The bet from producers Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar at T-Series is a familiar one in the content business: rather than fund an entirely new concept, they’re reviving a dormant but well-loved property with most of its original cast, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani, intact.

That’s a distinct kind of franchise economics. A new film with no built-in audience has to spend on awareness from zero, while a nostalgia-driven sequel to a cult classic starts with a base of goodwill that took the original film, and years of word-of-mouth since, to build.

The risk cuts the other way, though: audiences who loved the original bring higher expectations, and a sequel that feels like it’s trading on nostalgia without matching the original’s sharpness can damage the very brand equity it was meant to capitalise on.

Director Prashant Bhagia inherits a difficult brief here, following Dibakar Banerjee’s original, whose specific tone, a satirical, character-driven take on a middle-class property dispute, was central to why the film endured in audiences’ memory long after its release.

For founders sitting on a dormant but well-regarded product or brand, the lesson is similar: reviving something people already loved can be a faster path to attention than building new demand from scratch, but only if the revival respects what made the original work in the first place.

The supporting cast includes Harsh Chhaya, Divya Khossla, Mikail Gandhi, Danish Iqbal, Kiran Juneja, Brijendra Kala, Anusha Lal, Tanya Maniktala, Mrityunjay Pandey and Rajesh Sharma, among others.

The sequel is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under T-Series, in association with Tandav Films.

The original 2006 film, directed by Dibakar Banerjee, followed a middle-class Delhi family’s fight to reclaim their plot of land from a property dealer, and went on to become a cult favourite for its sharp writing and ensemble cast.
