Pandurang Taware began developing the Agri Tourism concept after studying how farm-based visitor experiences could supplement irregular agricultural income. His own account dates the pilot to May 16, 2005, at Malegaon near Baramati in Maharashtra, following research conducted in 2004. The model combined rural hospitality, agricultural activities and direct sales of farm products.
The early programme expanded through farmer selection and training. Taware’s account says a 2007 Maharashtra extension programme selected 52 farmers to develop agritourism centres, followed by another group in 2008. A 2012 industry case study described Agri Tourism Development Corporation as an umbrella body supporting regional centres through training, technical assistance, project preparation, marketing and promotion.
Taware later brought the model to Shark Tank India Season 1. He asked for ₹50 lakh for 5% equity. The programme’s pitch table does not record a completed deal, and current Shark Tank databases classify the appearance as a no-deal pitch. The company therefore continued without an on-air investment from the sharks.
The venture’s legal operating company, Agri Tourism Development Company Private Limited, was incorporated on December 21, 2010. Registry-derived records list Pandurang Bhagwanrao Taware as managing director and identify the business as active. A separate corporate profile reports FY2025 revenue of ₹70.98 lakh, an increase of 5% from the preceding year.
Agri Tourism’s broader impact figures require careful attribution. An Indian government training report says Taware claimed the initiative had helped more than 628 farmers earn ₹58 crore before the pandemic. More recent educational material describes training delivered across many villages, but definitions vary between centres, trained farmers and affiliated farms. These figures are not interchangeable and should not be treated as a single audited network count.
The strongest verifiable before-and-now comparison is therefore operational. Agri Tourism progressed from a single Baramati-area pilot into an incorporated rural-tourism and farmer-training business that remains active two decades later. As of August 24, 2026, current professional activity includes Agri Tourism training and the annual World Agri Tourism Day programme, while the latest registry-derived financial snapshot records ₹70.98 lakh in FY2025 revenue.
