Air India’s decision to add a third weekly-frequency route to Toronto — a new Mumbai service launching October 25, 2026, alongside its existing Delhi-Toronto flights — signals renewed confidence in the India-Canada corridor at a time when the airline is also investing heavily in newer aircraft across the route.

The new Mumbai-Toronto service, running through March 26, 2027, will initially fly on upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring eight First Class suites with privacy doors, 40 fully flat Business Class seats and 280 Economy seats, adding close to 2,000 weekly seats to the corridor before transitioning to Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from January 2027.

For business travellers and the broader trade and diaspora community linking western India to Canada, the timing matters: Mumbai’s financial and startup ecosystem gains a direct long-haul link to Toronto that previously required routing through Delhi or a foreign hub.

Air India is simultaneously upgrading its existing Delhi-Toronto service, with seven of its 10 weekly flights on that route now flown by the new Dreamliner, pointing to a broader fleet-modernisation push across its highest-demand North American corridors rather than a one-off route addition.

Chief commercial officer Nipun Aggarwal framed the expansion around ‘strong people-to-people ties’ between India and Canada, language that also reflects the commercial reality of a route where business, education and family travel demand has historically supported premium-cabin investment.

With total weekly India-Canada capacity rising to 20 flights and premium seat availability up 71% for winter 2026-27, the expansion gives corporates and investors watching bilateral trade and travel flows a concrete data point on how airlines are positioning for demand on this corridor.

By January 2027, Air India expects all of its Toronto services from both Delhi and Mumbai to be operated with new or freshly upgraded cabin interiors across both aircraft types.

Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada’s busiest airport and a key hub for connections onward to other North American cities, making it a strategic anchor point for Air India’s Canada network.
