Bhojpuri Bawaal, billed as India’s first Bhojpuri celebrity reality show, will premiere on August 2 on JioHotstar and Colors, the makers announced this week. The show brings together some of the biggest names in the Bhojpuri entertainment industry for a format built around personal drama rather than competitive tasks.
The makers released the first glimpse of the show on Monday, giving viewers an early look at the rivalries, candid conversations and drama that will play out among the cast, according to news agency PTI. The promo opens with the participants seated around a dinner table trying to decide how to introduce the show to audiences, before the conversation turns into a heated exchange over rumours and public perceptions surrounding one another.
The confirmed line-up includes actor-singer Pawan Singh, actor and BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’, RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav, and actors Aamrapali Dubey and Kajal Raghwani, among others. Their participation brings together some of Bhojpuri cinema’s biggest stars and political figures from the industry’s home turf on a single reality show set.
Unlike conventional reality formats built around tasks and eliminations, Bhojpuri Bawaal is structured around the participants’ personal and professional lives, covering their careers, family relationships, friendships, rivalries and the pressures of stardom, according to the makers.
Pawan Singh said the show would let audiences see the people behind the headlines, noting that years of stories about the cast have ranged from accurate to entirely fabricated. Nirahua described the format as an unscripted look at the contestants’ real relationships, while Tej Pratap Yadav said the show captures stories from the Bhojpuri heartland that have not previously had a bigger platform.
Aamrapali Dubey and Kajal Raghwani both said the series would show sides of the celebrities’ lives usually kept away from cameras, with Raghwani adding that the show is built around genuine interactions rather than manufactured drama. Bhojpuri Bawaal is set to stream from August 2 on JioHotstar and also air on Colors.
