DC has collected Rs 16.40 crore net in India over its opening three days at the box office, earning Rs 4.40 crore on Friday, Rs 7 crore on Saturday and Rs 5 crore on Sunday.

The film marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut as a lead actor, with the established director taking on the role of Devadas opposite Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, in a Tamil-language romantic action thriller loosely adapted from the 1917 novel Devdas.

For Sun Pictures, which produced the film under Kalanithi Maran, the steady day-over-day hold — rather than a front-loaded opening followed by a sharp drop — is the more commercially significant signal, indicating word-of-mouth is sustaining rather than eroding turnout.

The film’s structure is itself a notable industry experiment: Kanagaraj, known primarily as the director behind the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, is testing whether a filmmaker’s brand recognition can translate into leading-man box office pull, a crossover that has succeeded unevenly for other directors-turned-actors in Indian cinema.

DC also picked up meaningful overseas business in its opening weekend, with North America collections trending from around $121,000 on Friday to roughly $150,000 by Saturday, adding an international revenue stream beyond the domestic net figures.

For content and media businesses, DC’s early trajectory is a useful reference point on how auteur-driven marketing — leaning on a recognisable creative voice rather than a traditional star cast — can be packaged and monetised in a competitive theatrical release calendar.

Trade analysts are watching the film’s weekday performance closely, since a steady hold through the first working week typically determines whether a theatrical release can sustain a longer box office run.

DC is directed by Arun Matheswaran and is loosely adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1917 novel Devdas, reworked as a Tamil-language romantic action thriller with a darker, contemporary setting.
