Delhi’s IGI Airport said its operations remained normal on Tuesday as the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain across the NCR.
The airport’s advisory, from operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), acknowledged that adverse weather was expected through the day but said flights were currently running as scheduled.
Travellers were advised to verify their flight status directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport, given the unpredictable conditions.
Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issued separate advisories, urging passengers to keep track of their flight timings during the red alert period.
The IMD forecast cloudy skies, intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, with another spell of rain expected later in the evening or at night.
An orange alert has also been placed on the region for the next 48 hours, meaning intermittent showers are likely to continue even after the red alert eases.
The alert follows a similar warning issued a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood risk were flagged as part of an active monsoon spell across northern and western India — a pattern relevant to businesses and logistics operators tracking supply-chain disruptions this week.
Earlier alerts had also covered Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir as the same system moved through the region.
Authorities also flagged the possibility of traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying parts of the city due to the heavy rain.
Commuters were told to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded stretches, even as flight schedules at the airport remained unaffected, with passengers and businesses alike advised to build in contingency time given the unsettled conditions forecast for the week.
DIAL has said passengers, including business travellers, can track live flight information through the airport’s official website and social media channels for the latest updates.
