The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, forecasting very heavy rainfall over the next two days.
Ladakh is also expected to see widespread rainfall through the rest of the week.
Winds of up to 80 kmph are expected in some areas, the IMD said, which could lead to uprooted trees and power outages.
The department has also warned of traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas as the rain continues.
Hilly states have been cautioned about landslides and the possibility of rivers rising suddenly amid the persistent rain.
