Lovlina Borgohain won the women’s 75kg boxing gold at the Asian Games 2026 on October 2, beating China’s Bao Ziyi 5-0 on her 29th birthday and becoming only the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to win Asian Games boxing gold.

A 5-0 decision means every judge on the panel scored the bout for the winner, which usually points to sustained control across the rounds rather than a close contest decided by one or two swing moments.

Winning on her birthday is a nice detail, but the more significant context is the company she now joins: until this result, Mary Kom was the only Indian woman with an Asian Games boxing gold, a gap of roughly twelve years since 2014.

Borgohain’s Olympic bronze from Tokyo 2020 gave her a strong reputation, but a continental gold adds a different kind of credential, one earned against the Asian field that Indian boxers face most regularly.

For Indian women’s boxing, results like this matter beyond the individual: a second name alongside Mary Kom on that short list makes the earlier achievement look less like an exception and more like the start of a pattern.

The first was Mary Kom, who won gold at the 2014 Asian Games.

Borgohain is also an Olympic medallist, having won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

It is her first Asian Games gold medal.

Indian boxers had a strong run at these Games, with Ankush Panghal and Parveen Hooda also reaching their finals.

The Asian Games 2026 are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

Boxing bouts at the Asian Games are scored by a panel of ringside judges, and a 5-0 verdict means all five judges scored the bout in the winner’s favour.

India’s overall medal tally at these Games has continued to grow across boxing, shooting, archery, athletics and other sports.
