Nasdaq-listed fintech company Payoneer Global has opened a new global capability centre in Gurugram, near Delhi, and plans to hire around 300 engineers by the end of 2026. The facility is set to become the company’s second-largest technology and research and development hub anywhere in the world.

The centre will focus on hiring artificial intelligence and platform engineers, India site leader Gaurav Gupta said. “India has an amazing talent pool for people who have experience in building financial technologies at a very large scale with deep-tech expertise. So our key reason to come to India is to tap into the talent density,” Gupta said.

Payoneer’s expansion follows a broader pattern among global companies scaling up their India operations. Firms including Mastercard, PayPal and Revolut are relying on their India centres for product development, payment processing and expanding artificial intelligence capabilities.

Industry consultant ANSR has estimated that revenue from India’s global capability centres will grow 12 per cent to $84 billion in 2026, underscoring the country’s expanding role as a hub for outsourced technology and engineering work by multinational firms.

Payoneer, a cross-border platform that lets businesses send and receive international payments, already operates an office in Bengaluru that handles sales functions for the domestic market and employs around 400 people. The new Gurugram centre will function separately from that sales-focused office.

The expansion comes a month after Canadian fintech company Nuvei announced plans to acquire Payoneer for about $2.75 billion, a deal that remains subject to regulatory approvals. Gupta said the proposed acquisition would not affect the India global capability centre or the company’s local business operations.
