Indian markets closed lower for the fifth day running on Friday, with rising crude oil prices tied to US-Iran tensions continuing to weigh on investor sentiment.
The BSE Sensex fell 331.62 points, or 0.43 per cent, to end at 76,059.77. The NSE Nifty 50 dropped 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, to close at 23,767.45, below the 23,800 level.
Auto, metal and energy stocks were the primary drag on the indices through the session.
IT and media stocks were the relative bright spots, closing higher even as the broader market slipped.
The result extends the current losing streak for both the Sensex and the Nifty to five consecutive sessions.
